Ever wondered if you could grow nutritious food right in the middle of a busy city? Want to learn how?

Come visit Urban Green Sydney’s Mobile Pop-Up Farm during National Science Week and discover how plants can thrive in unexpected places, right in the heart of the Sydney CBD.

We’re bringing a slice of urban farming onto the busy streets of Sydney, where anyone can drop in, get hands-on, and plant their own microgreens to take home.

You’ll also be able to harvest and taste a range of our most popular greens and explore how cities can strengthen food security by growing food in small or underused spaces through innovation, design, and simple growing systems.

A live hydroponic NFT system will be on display, giving you the chance to see how water, nutrients, and lighting work together to support healthy plant growth in compact urban setups.

We'll demonstrate the use of growing mediums like coconut coir instead of soil, transforming what would otherwise be a waste product, like coconut husk, into a valuable resource for growing plants. It’s a simple example of circular farming in action, where waste is reduced and materials are reused in smarter ways.

Our team will be on hand to show you how it all comes together, and to share ideas for how you could build a simple growing system at home using everyday materials.

This pop-up is open to everyone, whether you’re passing by, visiting with friends, or coming as part of a group. No science background needed, just curiosity.

Come plant, taste, explore, and see how cities can grow food in smarter, greener, and more surprising ways.
